About Deann E. Bucher (she/her/hers/ella)

I retired from teaching in 2020 with a long list of awards including receiving the prestigious CU Department of Education, “The Best Should Teach” award, an “Inspirational Teacher” recognition from the Church of LDS, and Role Model Award from Boulder PFLAG.

I am an activist and a member of a LGBTQi community and an ally in fighting racism, ableism and religious oppression. I devote my energy toward fighting for equal justice and interrupting systemic oppression.

In my free time, I play in the Parlando Flute Choir and work with the Boulder chapter of the NAACP reviewing school curricula for institutional bias. I have also edited a book about teaching Social Studies in the 21st century. Because I love working with students, I am also working part-time at Fusion Academy in Louisville.

My education includes a BA in Music History and Theory from the University of Denver, a teaching certificate in Social Studies from the University of Colorado, Boulder, a MA from the University of Colorado, Denver in Information and Learning Technology and a Principal’s License. I have had the opportunity write Standards for the State of Colorado, and a series of courses for new Social Studies teachers at Jones International University.

“It will be a great honor to give back to the BVSD community and to represent Louisville, a community that is often overlooked in the representation on the school board. The future of BVSD will be in the growing east county schools. Louisville has not been represented for many years. Louisville needs representation for the specific interests of a small city.”
